Greetings Tillamook County, I am a New Orleans transplant to the great northwest. I lived in New Orleans for 38 years, grew up in the Catholic tradition, went to a private Catholic grammar school, middle school, and then high school. I graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie Louisiana in 1987. I was in the concert, marching, and Jazz bands. I marched in carnival parades during Mardi Gras, traveled to Disney World twice to march in the Disney Parade, and performed in concert band, and jazz band competitions at Loyola University in New Orleans.
After graduating from high school, I attended the University of New Orleans, then a local community college. I started a family and a career in banking working for several different banks over a ten year period while attending night school and raising my son. I worked in the retail industry for a New Orleans based drug store chain that was eventually taken over by the corporate giant Rite Aid Pharmacy Chain and became a displaced worker. I was afforded retraining through the Job Training Partnership Act and attended the Tulane Computer Training Facility in uptown New Orleans. I became a Microsoft Certified Professional and a computer services professional for Tulane University.
I worked full-time and attended classes at Tulane University College and continued to raise my son. I graduated with a bachelors of science with a major in Computer Information Technology and a minor in Computer Information Systems in 2002. I later decided to pursue a masters degree in social work from Tulane University School of Social Work graduating in the fall of 2006.
On August 27th, 2005, two days before Katrina made landfall in New Orleans, I evacuated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My journey since then has included living in Lafayette, Louisiana, Algiers, Louisiana, Baltimore, Maryland, the beautiful coast of Brookings, Oregon, the Rogue Valley, Salem, Oregon, and currently Bay City, Oregon where I served as the Elected Volunteer Mayor serving from 2018 - 2020.
My career as a Clinical Social Worker in Supervision led to being a Social Work Case Manager and Therapist for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at the Pelican Bay State Supermax Prison in Northern Del Norte County California. I have also lived in the Rogue Valley and worked for an Adolescent Foster Care Treatment Center helping adolescents and young adults afflicted with traumatic and adverse childhood experiences. In 2014, I moved to Bay City from Salem, Oregon where I worked for the Oregon State Hospital as a Clinical Social Worker in the Restore to Competency Program. As an Informaticist in the Quality Improvement Department, I helped create and manage forms in the electronic health record.
